CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND DISTANCE EDUCATION (CETDE)
The
general function of the Center for Educational Technology and Distance Education is to "plan, design, and manage alternative delivery systems to provide access to training, information and educational services to beginning and continuing teachers who are constrained by distance, time and varied personal considerations from attending a residential school context." It links with specific academic units of the University for instructional design of distance education courses/ programs and for the centralization of systems and processes.
CETDE performs the
following functions :
1. Design, implement and manage a robust and secure campus-wide
area network that can effectively support and facilitate the
development of a knowledge management system,
management of web-enabled distance-learning programs,
integration of the information and communication technologies
into the curriculum to enhance learning and teaching in all disciplines, and
effective communication and exchange of information within the
university and outside of its system
2. Develop and maintain an e-learning portal that would enhance learning and teaching, and research in the university.
3. Collaborate with and support content specialists to develop and implement multimedia teaching/ learning materials.
4. In collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs, develop and implement both degree and non-degree courses on new media and learning technologies.
5. Manage a multimedia development laboratory/ e-Learning Resource Center.
6. Manage the institute for learning technologies.
7. Provide training and consulting services to different colleges within the university system and other educational and training institutions in the country on e-learning and integration of ICT in teaching and learning.
